Alan Wake’s Barry Wheeler and Duke Nukem Appearing in Death Rally

Last year’s Alan Wake wasn’t quite the success Microsoft and Remedy Games hoped it would be. Who knows when we’ll get a proper sequel to the game. Thankfully, Remedy isn’t done with the characters of Alan Wake. The one and only Barry Wheeler is making a cameo in Remedy’s upcoming remake of Death Rally for the iOS.

For those who don’t remember Death Rally, here’s a quick overview. Released in 1996, Death Rally was an overhead racing game developed by Remedy and published by Apogee. Players start off in a lowly buggy as they work their way through races. The update plays very similarly, with players earning points on how well they shoot down enemy cars and how fast their laps are, for example, and for new weapon and car upgrades, as well. The iOS version uses digital analog sticks and icons to control the vehicles.

But back to the cameo of Barry Wheeler—a headshot floating over a “boss car.” If you take him out, you’ll gain extra points. Duke Nukem (who popped up in the original) will also show, as will John Gore, a character from developer Mountain Sheep’s last game, Minigore.

There is some bad news. The game will not support multiplayer initially, but the feature will be updated to the game a few weeks after Death Rally’s late March release date. Apple’s iPad 2 announcement means some extra time will be spent on fine-tuning the game.
