Coming from a person who used his World of Warcraft mouse not only for raids, but for everyday use as well, I can tell you that it’s not the most comfortable choice on a daily basis. For the past two weeks I have tested out the Mionix NAOS 5000 mouse and have found that not only is it a great and precise gaming mouse, but it’s a comfortable solution for extended gaming hours, as well as outside of gaming.
It doesn’t have an over-abundance of buttons, so don’t expect to map 20 different macros that will let you do a victory dance after successfully defeating an enemy. Besides the two standard mouse buttons, it has two more buttons on the side (also can be used for back and forward when browsing the Internet) a scroll wheel and an up and down arrow for switching DPI (dots per inch).
So far it sounds like a lot of standard gaming mice. The difference here is in the aesthetics. Upon first glance, you might think this mice is specifically designed for left-handed people. This is because the right side of the mouse has a finger rest, that looks like it’s meant for your thumb, when in fact it’s designed for your ring finger. I’m guessing people never generally thought of even needing a ring finger rest, but it makes the mouse extremely grippable, and effectively increasing the overall stability and control.
The mouse is relatively lightweight, which can make it tough when precision aiming is required. Good thing that it comes packaged with six 5g weights to suit the specific gamers needs.
The mouse comes with optional software to install, but if you hope to get the most of it, I highly recommend it. Every button can be configured and customized, and the mouse glow color can be changed to 24 different colors. The biggest advantage to the software is the DPI settings, which can be set from 90 being super precise to 5040 being super sonic speed.
The mouse can save up to three at a time, and each can be customized to exactly the right situation. For a FPS for example, a higher DPI setting can be set to when running and gunning, giving you the edge to be able to quickly aim from target to target. Switch to a sniper rifle that requires precise and slow aiming, a simple button press on the mouse will switch over to your preset lower DPI, making headshots that much easier to pull off.
The software also comes with a handy surface analyzer, which scans the surface underneath the mouse and indicates whether it’s suitable for those late night fragging sessions, or if a change of mouse pad is in order.
While this mouse may not be generations ahead of others, it does provide comfortable play sessions thanks to its unique design, and its ability to customize the buttons, DPI, and certain macros, ensures that it will fit any gamers needs.
