Downloadable PlayStation Games To Be Playable
on PS3

Sony Computer Entertainment America today
introduced new features to PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP, including the ability to
download and play classic PlayStation titles on the PS3 system. Gamers will be
able to use saved data from PlayStation format software on both their PS3 and
PSP systems, offering a seamless gameplay experience for titles playable on both
platforms. This new functionality is part of the latest firmware upgrades (ver.
1.70 for PS3 and ver. 3.40 for PSP).

SCEA also announced new content coming to the
PLAYSTATION Store, including a can’t-miss trailer for Ratchet and Clank’s PS3
debut. The PLAYSTATION Store remains the best destination for the more than 1.3
million registered PLAYSTATION Network users to find the latest PS3 content.

Downloadable PlayStation Titles on PS3

PlayStation format titles for play on PSP first
became available for download in December. Currently there are a dozen titles
available, including favorites such as Syphon Filter, Tekken 2, and Crash
Bandicoot. With the growing consumer demand for playing retro games, SCEA will
now offer downloadable PlayStation format software to PS3 users. The PlayStation
titles currently on the PLAYSTATION Store will soon be repackaged and made
available for both systems. Once the updated versions are available, PSP users
who previously purchased a PlayStation format game can simply re-download the
title at no additional cost. New titles will continue to be released throughout
the year.

In addition, the firmware updates enable saved
data for downloadable PlayStation titles to be copied between both systems. This
functionality delivers a new level of interoperability between PS3 and PSP
systems, giving gamers the freedom to start a game on one platform and pick up
where they left off on the other.

Firmware 1.70 for PS3 also adds the force
feedback function of select USB accessories designed for use with PlayStation 2
format software.
