EA Teases New Need for Speed Powered by Frostbite 2

EA has revealed a new Need for Speed game for this year. A teaser trailer for the game, entitled Need for Speed: The Run, can be seen below. This new entry in the series is keeping the pace high, with a release date set for November 15.

This more story-focused game involves a cross-country race through different locales. The twist is variety–with city traffic, dangerous mountain passes, and canyons comprising a few of the locales. EA says the game will take players from “the Golden Gate Bridge to the Empire State building.” Sounds like a fun trip to me.

One big point of note is the use of DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine for the game. This same engine powers the stunning Battlefield 3. Could we expect some collapsing buildings here, as well? Either way, it’s sure to be a formidable game, with EA claiming the driving physics will also receive a boost thanks to the new tech.

The Run is developed by Black Box, who are no strangers to the Need for Speed series but haven’t impressed us the way Criterion did with last year’s Hot Pursuit. With the series sticking to a relentless annual release schedule, here’s hoping this title can maintain the high standard set by last year’s game.
