Mare Nostrum Brings North African Action to
Red Orchestra

Mare Nostrum, the free mod that takes Red
Orchestra from the Ostfront to the North African desert, released as an Open
Beta.

Sandstorm Productions, the team developing Mare
Nostrum, the mod for Tripwire Interactive’s Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45
released the first open Beta of the mod 1st March 2008 – and has already
responded to the player feedback by releasing more updates to the mod!

The mod was released with a whole host of new
features for Red Orchestra, including:

  • The British and Commonwealth infantry in
    desert gear
  • New desert gear for the Germans
  • All-new British voice pack (and this one just
    HAS to be heard!)
  • New weapons to play with:
    • Lee Enfield No 1 Mk III* rifle
    • Thompson 1928-A1
    • Bren Mk II
    • No36M ‘Mills’ Bomb
  • And, of course, new maps to play with them on:
    • Tobruk Central
    • Bardia
    • Akaba
    • Fallen Empire

Reacting very fast to the feedback from the good
number of people who tried the mod, the team have already brought out an update,
which included fixes and tweaks to play balance to all the maps, plus the new
Australian voice-pack. So we now have the Brits and the Aussies in Red
Orchestra!

Here at the Tripwire offices, we’re finding a
couple of these maps to be classics already. And the British voice-pack is a
gem. It is free to download – you just need Red Orchestra installed to play it.
So what are you waiting for?
