No Zelda 25th Anniversary Collection Coming

Zelda fans, commence the weeping. It looks like we won’t be getting a commemorative 25th anniversary collector’s set for The Legend of Zelda. As specified on Nintendo World Report by Shigeru Miyamoto, a collection of Zelda games won’t be released to celebrate 25 years of Zelda–it just wouldn’t be “Nintendo-like.”

I have no idea what Shiggy means when he says that it isn’t “Nintendo-like,” but I think I speak on behalf of countless Zelda fans when I say, so what? I want my Legend of Zelda 25th anniversary collector’s edition disc for the Wii! I love Mario as much as the next guy, but for me, Zelda will always be the pinnacle of the Big N’s efforts, and it’s a shame that the series won’t be treated to its very own compilation.

I suppose we don’t have much reason to complain, though. Nintendo might not be releasing a special compilation disc, but they are delivering oodles of great Zelda content throughout the rest of the year. They’ve already launched Link’s Awakening on the 3DS eShop, and Four Swords will be downloadable for free in September. And if that wasn’t enough, we’ve still got Ocarina of Time 3D (which is already getting rave reviews) and Skyward Sword to look forward to. Not to mention the Zelda concert tour that Nintendo has planned.

I guess we don’t really need a Zelda collector’s disc. Still, I can’t say I’m not a tiny bit disappointed. After the first collector’s edition disc for the GameCube featured a glitchy Majora’s Mask that froze and deleted memory card data, I’ve kind of been hoping for the Big N to deliver a true collector’s disc with proper ports of classic Zelda games. Looks like I can dream on.
