Wipeout Reality Show Headed to Kinect This Summer

Activision and ABC are partnering up to bring the reality show Wipeout to the Kinect this summer. In “Wipeout in the Zone,” player avatars will be subject to all the courses featured on the show, including the now famous big red balls, as well as new ones created specifically for the game. In total, there will be 30-plus challenges, so you’ll look even more ridiculous than you do jumping around on the raft in Kinect Adventures.

“The ABC hit show Wipeout continues to thrill a growing fan base of viewers with hilarious new obstacles. Everyone who watches the show wishes they could try the obstacle course—and now this is their chance!” said Activision’s David Oxford. “The show is all about absurd movement and well-timed balance, so it’s a perfect fit for a Kinect game.”

When you ultimately fail to pass a gauntlet, your performances will be narrated by the show’s actual hosts (John Anderson, John Henson, and Jill Wagner) for that genuine feel. It’s a lot less embarrassing than going on national television and falling on your face, as “running, ducking, dodging and wiping out” in front of family members would be the preferred option for many viewers and gamers alike.

Just a thought: There’s nothing stopping Activision from putting together a super match between the game’s best player and the best of the real life version, which would probably boost sales considerably. Maybe reading this will spark the incentive and culminate with the Kinect user coming out on top. What would that do for video games? It would show the world that gamers are human … unlike the people who actually go on that show, watched by five million every week.
