Minecraft Passes 15 Million Registered Users

This weekend Mojang celebrated turning one year old, but the indie developer had other reasons to celebrate this weekend.  Mojang's hit game Minecraft passed the 15 million registered user landmark.  Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson proudly announced on Sunday, "Holy moly, we reached 15 million registered users. :-O omg"

According to the statistics tab on Minecraft.net, the sandbox adventure game from indie-developer Mojang currently has 15,085,559 registered users.  Of that number, a staggering 3,819,519, or 25.32%, have bought the game.

Going into even more depth, 45,318 people have registered, and 10,326 people have bought Minecraft in the last 24 hours alone.

That number is likely to grow with the official launch of Minecraft in November.  Notch is gearing up for a "code freeze" in two days until the full version of Minecraft is released.  Next month, Mojang is hosting MineCon in Las Vegas — a convention dedicated to all things Minecraft.  At MineCon, Minecraft fans will gather to celebrate the launch of the full version of Minecraft..

Currently available only on the PC and Mac, Minecraft is headed to the Xbox 360 this winter with Kinect support via 4J Studios, the company also responsible for Xbox Live Arcade games Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, and Banjo-Tooie.  Mojang recently released Minecraft – Pocket Edition for mobile phones.
