Minecraft Dev Blasts Minecon Presenters for Poor Behavior
The boys of Yogscast are well known for their gaming-related YouTube videos and podcasts, though have proven especially popular with Minecraft fans, with some of their entertaining Minecraft videos netting almost a million hits apiece. As such, it was no surprise that the duo was invited to Minecon, the first-ever celebration of the unique mining simulator, with Mojang having announced "We are very excited to announce that the Yogscast will be joining us at MineCon!"
Though following some Tweets from Minecraft lead developer Notch, it seems Mojang is eager to distance themselves from the group following some bad behavior witnessed at the con.
Tweet 1: "I'm very sorry about the behavior of the people we won't work with any more. Celebrity or not, you don't f-bomb kids."
Though it seems Notch (aka, Markus Persson) was not in the mood to name names, after some prodding he revealed he was indeed talking about Yogscast. Following some attacks from the Yogscast community, he felt the need to elaborate on his encounter with the duo.
Tweet 2: "Yogscast repeatedly insulted people, talked behind their backs, refused to cooperate, and acted like total spoiled divas nonstop."
Tweet 3: "They called us "a bunch of nerds who don't know how to run a company", demanded that we pay them to come here (nobody else got paid)."
Tweet 4: "And they claim they're the reason minecraft is big and that we should thank them more than anyone else in the community. They're total dicks"
Apparently though, the straw that broke the camel's back came when they inappropriately engaged with a young fan asking for an autograph.
Tweet 5: "A kid wanted them to sign something I had signed, and they said they'd cross it out and put "fuck you" there instead."
Tweet 6: "Everyone else in the Minecraft community is all about respecting and caring. They're not. They're an isolated island of egos."
Definitely an odd situation, and it seems the Minecraft community could be severely affected now that these popular Minecraft figures have been blasted by Notch. We'll have to see if these two groups can patch things up, but given how upset the normally lovable Notch seems to be, the Yogscast boys may have to find a new mining simulator to play.
Edit: 12:57pm - Readers are noting that Yogscast has already lost hundreds of YouTube subscribers following this incident. They're losing about thirty subscribers a minute, as can be seen simply by refreshing their page. A condemnation by Notch is definitely not good press!
Edit 2: 1:06pm - Notch has added what may be his final tweet on the subject. "All this said, I'm very tired at the moment, and this will probably pass. I do like the work they do, very much." Definitely a different tone here than the "isolated island of egos" comment. We have to wonder if this comment is sincere, or simply an attempt to prevent a major rift in the Minecraft world.
Edit 3: 1:26pm - Yogscast has promised to make an official statement on this controversy.
