Grand Theft Auto 5 announcement expected before E3, estimated October release

Back in February, I told everybody to wait until E3 for more details about Rockstar Games highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5.  This was based on a company Q&A where they told fans to wait a "few months" for more news about the game. The comments I received was that I was crazy, that Rockstar games never attends E3.

That is correct;  Rockstar doesn't attend E3 anymore.  That doesn't mean we won't get more details near that time – and I'm not alone in that belief.  Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, in a recent segment of Pach-Attack, also predicted that Rockstar Games will make some sort of GTA 5 announcement before E3 actually starts.

“They’ve outgrown the show. I think they’re way too cool to go," Pachter said of Rockstar and their absences from recent E3 shows.

“My read on those guys is they like stealing the thunder from everything else," he continued. "So if I had to bet, I’d say you’d get an announcement on GTA V the day before E3 starts, that’d be Monday, June 4. They don’t show up and that’s all anybody can do is talk about GTA V at the show .”

And for the record, all of you haters out there, Rockstar Games has attended E3.  In fact, for the first three Grand Theft Auto games that they made: GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, they were all announced at E3.  So yes, E3 is still a big deal, regardless if they attend the actual event or not.

As for my other prediction, that the June announcement will set them up perfectly for a late 2012 release, Pachter also seems to be on board.

"I'm gonna stick with my original date.  It's going to launch on October 23, 2013," Pachter added.  "I know that's too close to BioShock 2, but I don't think the Rockstar guys care about the 2K games."

So will Rockstar steal the show at E3?  I said it once, and I'll say it again, yes.  Plus, it's been way too long since we've last heard anything official about the game.
