New Portal speedrun record set in 8 minutes

The new world record for completing Portal clocks in at 8 minutes 31.93 seconds.

Most of the video, titled "Portal Done Pro-Er," takes place between testing chambers, and overall it shaves nearly a minute off the previous holder's time — captured in a video called "Portal Done Pro" in 2010, three years after the game first released.

The timer starts as soon as the team (consisting of SourceRuns members Nick "Z1mb0bw4y" Roth, Josh "Inexistence" Peaker, Nick "Gocnak" Kerns, and Sebastian "Xebaz" Dressler) acquires crosshairs and ends when Glados is destroyed.

The team celebrates its victory by accessing a secret area containing the signature end game cake.

"To be SDA legal we have done our run without using scripts/cheats/hacks for any portion of the run," the group said. "This run first started after the discovery of a new glitch, which snowballed into a whirlwind of discoveries of new tricks, skips, and glitches."

The members started running chambers in April, took a break, and resumed in June. The effort was largely completed in two weeks' time.

This Google document details each segment and the methods the team used.
