Gearbox shares their thoughts on creating Aliens: Colonial Marines

Imagine the pressure of having to create a game based on one of the most beloved movie franchises. That's exactly what SEGA and Gearbox Software was tasked with when developing Aliens: Colonial Marines, a sequel to James Cameron's Aliens film.

While you'd guess creating such a game would amount in tremendous pressure, the developers of Gearbox seem more excited than anything. And with this new behind-the-scenes look at Aliens: Colonial Marines, you'll hear from the developers at Gearbox just how exciting it has been to create a video game sequel to the film franchise.

"One of the exciting things about creating aliens: Colonial Marines is that it's not based on a movie; it's a sequel to a series of movies," explains Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. "We had Ridley Scott's Alien, followed by James Cameron's Aliens. These movies define science fiction for so many people."

"It's humbling that my studio and I get to create a sequel to these films in video game form," he adds.

That's just one person working on the game. Check out the new trailer to see how the rest of the developers describe Aliens: Colonial Marines and share their work in creating an authentic experience.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will be available on February 12, 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. It will also be available on Wii U, but a release date for that platform will be revealed at a later date.

Recently, Pitchford made the claim that Aliens: Colonial Marines may best be played on the Wii U though Gearbox hasn't yet detailed how the Wii U's GamePad will be utilized in terms of gameplay.
