Nintendo’s September press event could reveal Wii U release date

Nintendo could reveal the release date and launch details for their upcoming Wii U console at a preview event scheduled for September.

The event which will take place in New York on Thursday, September 13, is invite-only and Nintendo is expected to finally reveal the long-awaited release date and price for the highly-anticipated console.

Hosted by Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, the presentation will apparently address "how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment."

Nintendo hasn't confirmed that launch information will be divulged at the event, but with it getting pretty late in the year and a target release date set for the holiday 2012 season, Nintendo is seemingly running out of time to make the announcement. This preview event information comes just a week after ONM's Editor-In-Chief told Nintendo fans frustrated by lack of Wii U information that the "good stuff" is coming soon.

Recent rumors seem to indicate a November release for the Wii U, sometime during "the week of Black Friday", though Nintendo hasn't commented on the speculation. However, given the similar release date with the Wii and Gamecube, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that the Wii U could release then. Earlier this month, we also received an alleged GameStop listing the robust lineup of titles for the Wii U.

So are we looking at a November release for the Wii U? We still don't know for sure, but hopefully that changes on September 13.
