Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 leads January software sales

Don't look now, but the best-selling game in the U.S. last month was Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. It's not exactly the biggest shocker considering the widespread popularity of the Call of Duty franchise. Black Ops 2 managed to break the $1 billion sales mark in just 15 days after its release.

Looking ahead, Black Ops 2 will be supported by four separate downloadable content packs. The first, titled Revolution, was released in January for Xbox 360. It will be coming to PS3 and PC later this month on Feb. 28.

Meanwhile, the first fresh game on the chart, DmC: Devil May Cry, ranked sixth. In fact, that seems to be the only new release in the top 10. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch placed 11th.

Taking second, third, fourth, and fifth were Far Cry 3, Just Dance 4, NBA 2K13, and Madden NFL 13, respectively.

Halo 4 came in seventh, followed by Assassin's Creed 3 at number eight, Skylanders Giants at nine, and FIFA Soccer 13 at 10.

The Xbox 360 was the most successful console again for the 25th consecutive month, selling 281,000 units.
