EA suspends marketing campaigns for SimCity

I hate to say it, but I’m not terribly surprised by this; EA has suspended all of its online marketing campaigns for SimCity until they get their s#$% together. If you’ve been trying to play over the last few days or have browsed the internet at all, you’d know the game’s servers haven’t been running so smoothly. I was able to play limitedly last night for a bit, and when it worked, it was actually quite fun. I’ve still yet to play the game at full capacity, though.

EA’s message was clear “please stop actively promoting the game." The email sent to Polygon continued with, “deactivated all SimCity text links and creative and we ask you to please remove any copy promoting SimCity from your website for the time-being."

If your game has been so anticipated and has had such a rough launch, perhaps this isn’t EA’s worst move. Getting your servers ironed out before continuing promotion is probably a step in the right direction. Despite all the issues, I’m still looking forward to racking up a boat load of hours this weekend – hopefully the servers will work.
