DuckTales are making a comeback thanks to WayForward

*UPDATE* Capcom has stated that the new DuckTales game will in fact be a remake of the original NES game. My hands are shaking, I can't type anymore… can't… contain… EXCITEMENT!

Ok, I have one confession to make. While I generally claim that Super Mario Bros. 3 might be my all time favorite NES game, standing right next to it on the 1st place pedestal, is DuckTales. This masterpiece of a game took the Mega Man formula and adapted it masterfully to the DuckTales universe. Hopping around on Scrooge's cane in the Amazon, or humming along to the absolutely amazing Moon level theme, DuckTales was the epitome of top notch game design, back in the day.

Developer WayForward, notable for the latest Adventure Time game on the 3DS, Mighty Switch Force and the fabulous Shantae: Risky's Revenge, will be the studio responsible for DuckTales. It's comforting to know that one of my favorite childhood games will be handled by a studio who almost lives and breathes platformers, as well as pay homage to retro visuals.

From the picture, taken by Joystiq, it's obvious that Scrooge will not be represented in his 8-bit glory, but rather sport a completely new, gorgeous hand-drawn art style.

DuckTales will be released as a downloadable title across XBLA, PSN and Wii U's eShop for $15.
