Open beta for Mojang’s Scrolls starts June 3rd

Mojang, the company behind Minecraft, has an update on their newest endeavor. Scrolls will be going into open beta on June 3. Scrolls is a virtual card battling game available for PC and Mac. You'll be able to buy Scrolls for $20 in the U.S.

If you're not familiar with Scrolls, it is a card battling game where "you used the power of creatures, spells and ancient machines to gain the edge in battle, deploying your forces by using scrolls." You'll build a custom deck of scrolls from your growing library, and Mojang will be adding new scrolls and resources over time. The goal of each match is to destroy your opponent's idols. They sit behind your opponent's forces and each start with 10 health. Destroy three of them and you win.

Scrolls features five different game modes: Tutorial helps you learn the basics of the game and how to play; Trials are a series of custom matches for you to earn easy gold and refine your skills; Quick Matches pit you against AI to earn gold and test out a new deck; Challenge Matches let you play against friends and enemies; and Ranked Matches have you face off against similarly skilled players to gain ranking.

Mojang also released a launch trailer to celebrate this announcement.
