David Hayter: ‘Next Metal Gear Solid will be excellent… like new coke’

Oh, David Hayter, you cheeky fellow. The ol' song and dance between Konami and Hayter, the former voice actor for Solid Snake, continued today following the reveal that Kiefer Sutherland would be replacing him in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid games.

I'm still not completely sold on the fact that Hayter won't have a role in the new Metal Gear Solid games — even if it isn't as Snake — but Hayter seemed pretty convincing in his response to today's announcement.

Could you sense the snarky tone in Hayter's comment? New Coke is, of course, Coca-Cola's failed attempt in changing the original formula for the product people already loved.

Again, it's hard to tell if Hayter and Konami are both really parting ways, or if this is just some PR ploy to raise hype for Metal Gear Solid 5. If you remember prior to today's pre-E3 show, Hayter cryptically tweeted "I'm so excited for E3! I just hope I don't lose my voice." This followed Konami's teaser that the actual voice of Snake would be confirmed today, making it all the more suspicious.

As it stands now, Kiefer Sutherland is the new voice of Solid Snake. And we still don't know if Hayter is involved with the game somehow. But I sure am enjoying the drama.
