Mutant Mudds may sell as a boxed edition

Developer Jools Watsham is trying to make a boxed copy of his 3DS game Mutant Mudds available to fans.

"The only way we will be able to make such a thing happen is to turn to Kickstarter," he wrote in a blog post today. "There has already been a successful Kickstarter campaign for a DS game called Diamond Trust of London. They needed $78,000 to create 1,000 boxed copies for the Nintendo DS."

That Kickstarter surpassed its funding goal, raising a little over $90,000. The campaign ended in May last year.

Watsham has contacted Nintendo to find out how this would work for 3DS games — if it's indeed a possibility.

"I am not sure if we are even allowed to order our own copies through Nintendo, and I do not know how much it will cost," he wrote. "It could cost more than the DS cartridges due to the larger storage sizes."

This kind of thing would definitely interest fans of Renegade Kids' games, but I know collectors would love to see more boxed editions, too. It would also be a great way for developers to take their already successful digital games and get them in the hands of more customers.
