Ubisoft: PvP plays a ‘very big role’ in Tom Clancy’s The Division

In shedding some more light about Tom Clancy's The Division, Ubisoft revealed that player versus player combat will play a "very big role" in the game. Tom Clancy's The Division was first unveiled at E3 2013 earlier this month where it easily became one of the most talked about games at the show.

How Ubisoft revealed the game's open world, online connected experience was reminiscent of when they first revealed Watch Dogs. Remember, during the Watch Dogs reveal, when they zoomed out to show another player actually playing? In similar fashion, the conclusion of The Division demo revealed a massive world filled with players all seemingly connected in a way which has not yet been revealed.

"In certain areas, you can also seamlessly engage in PvP and experience suspenseful scenarios where danger can come from anywhere and anyone," Ubisoft explained. In the demo shown to us, the squad of players looking to evacuate supplies was ambushed by what seemed to be another group of players — presumably part of an opposing faction. A video of the demo is below to refresh your memory (skip to the end for the PvP part).

"Player vs. Player combat will play a very big role in our game," the company said. "The choices you make as a Division agent can either spur a recovery or plunge the city further into chaos. The people you meet in certain areas of the game can either be your best friends or your worst enemies. So you’ll constantly be making decisions that will impact the world around you."

Ubisof tadded that there are currently "no plans to cap the number of players who can be affiliated to any particular clan" and that they are looking to hav ea "very extensive web-based clan support system for all players in The Division."

Tom Clancy's The Division is set to release in late 2014 for Xbox One and PS4, although Ubisoft has not ruled out PC as a potential platform.
