Imagine Kingdom Hearts with Star Wars and Marvel

Imagine Marvel and Star Wars content in Kingdom Hearts. Can you imagine how amazing that would be? I can, and so can Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura, who told Finaland during last week's Japan Expo in Paris that he is keen to have Star Wars and Marvel-related content in the franchise.

Sounds great, right? So what's the hold up?

Disney has a lot of restrictions for any new franchise that the developers hope to incorporate in the Kingdom Hearts universe. While Nomura thinks "it would be great if we could add those licenses as well," he said that "there are lots of rules and restrictions by Disney so we can't actually put in everything people want. So it's a quite difficult decision but we're gonna prepare some surprises for you so, just wait for the information."

Nomura isn't alone in his thinking. Final Fantasy developer Yoshinori Kitase has interest in the potential cross-over as well. Nomura also said that "We're not going to decide it whether Kitase-san likes Star Wars or not but we've been talking about Star Wars itself since it became Disney's content recently. When I heard the news I was like wow, wow. Obviously it's gonna be great if we could add it."

Marvel and Star Wars levels with recognizable characters would be an amazing addition to Kingdom Hearts 3, but it's hard to see Disney approving such a thing when they have their own projects in-store for these franchises. I'll keep hope alive, but if it's not in Kingdom Hearts 3, I won't be upset. Here's to hoping…

Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently in development on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, in which a mature Sora will embark on new adventures with Mickey, Donald and Goofy. New Disney-themed worlds previously unseen in Kingdom Hearts games will also be featured.
