‘PS4 Link’ app coming to PS Vita in next update

PS4 Link, a companion app for the PlayStation Vita that will tie the handheld device to Sony's next-gen console, will be released as part of the Vita's next firmware update. Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the news today on Twitter, but gave no other details.

A similar app, originally announced as "PlayStation App," will be released for iOS and Android devices alongside the PS4's launch in November. The app — at least the one announced for smart devices — will offer supplementary material during gameplay, similar to Microsoft's SmartGlass for Xbox One.

Already confirmed features include having the mobile device act as a secondary controller or screen with compatible titles, connect to the PlayStation Store, purchase and download games directly to your PS4, view Trophy information, and support other chat functionality. It can be assumed that all, or many of these at least, will also be offered through PS4 Link on the Vita.
