Major Nelson: ‘Xbox One fully supports native 1080p at 60 fps’

The internet went in to a tizzy when Infinity Ward confirmed rumors that the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts will run at native 1080p on the PS4, while the Xbox One version will be upscaled from 720p.

Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin suggested this was a result of the studio wanting to optimize each console to hit 60 frames per second. This immediately drew speculation that the Xbox One was not powerful enough to support 60 FPS at native 1080p.

I'm not a developer. I've not seen the inner workings of the Xbox One, so I can't possibily comment on its capabilities. But in any case, Microsoft's Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb addressed this issue. Reiterating what he said on Twitter earlier, Hryb responded to disappointed Xbox One fans by assuring them, "Xbox One fully supports native 1080p at 60 fps."

"It is up to the individual developers to determine what resolution best fits their design goals," he added.

I get what he's saying, but it doesn't really answer why Call of Duty: Ghosts can't run native 1080p at 60 fps on the Xbox One. What's making this all the more frustrating is that nobody seems to be able to get an answer. And because of that, we have rumors continuing to swirl.

Here's a bit of advice Microsoft. You want the rumors to end? Simply come out and be honest. Sony yesterday released a huge Ultimate FAQ outlining PS4's capabilities. Sure, they faced some backlash as a result of some unfavorable reveals, but the transparency, I'm sure, was appreciated.
