College athletes may not be able to get paid for their services on the field, or the money the bring in for their respective schools, but each year members of qualifying teams are rewarded for their participation in bowl games. While cash is off the table, players can snag some pretty sweet swag like, for instance, those participating in this year's Military Bowl who are being gifted a free PlayStation 4.
The PS4 is definitely one of this year's hottest electronics and at $399, it falls well within the NCAA-imposed limited of $550. Well, technically, players are receiving a $450 PS4 bundle that includes the game system, a game, and a PlayStation Store gift card. According to Sports Business Journal, which listed the gift bags for all 35 bowls, the PS4 is the only video game-related gift this year. And considering it's sold out at just about every retailer, it makes for a mighty fine gift.
This year's Military Bowl will be played between Maryland (ACC) and Marshall (C-USA) on Friday, December 27 at 2:30 p.m. And for those wondering, the NCAA forbids players from reselling these gifts.
