Rogue cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past

Anna Paquin's Rogue character will not be appearing in the upcoming, star-packed X-Men: Days of Future Past

You can see a quick shot of a scene she appeared in from the trailer. It's a big rescue scene with Rogue, Iceman, Professor X and Magneto — and the whole scene was cut from the movie.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Bryan Singer explained:

Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she's in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won't appear in it.

Singer made sure to clarify that Paquin did a "fantastic" job, and that editing her out of the film had nothing to do with her. Paquin also "completely understood," as film do tend to evolve over a long course of shooting.

In my opinion, no one is really going to miss Rogue in the new movie. I never cared for the way her character developed over the first three X-Men films. And since she was only in one scene, it sounds like they didn't have a plan for her character anyway, other than nostalgia and fan-service.

X-Men: Days of Future Past releases in theaters on May 23, 2014.
