Bethesda’s ‘special announcement’ a hoax, no Fallout 4 reveal planned

An email teasing a "very special announcement" from Bethesda on January 12, 2014 is nothing more than a hoax. The rumors of a Fallout 4 or Skyrim on Xbox One/PS4 began to spread after users claimed to receive an email (pictured above) from the official Bethesda store. Unlike the last hoax involving "TheSurvivor2299," Bethesda was much quicker to react, with Pete Hines taking to Twitter to shoot down any rumors.

When asked by a fan if the "special announcement" was true, Pete Hines, Bethesda's VP of marketing and PR, flat out denied it. "No. Another fan hoax," he responded on Twitter.

In a series of follow-up Tweets, Hines said that Bethesda doesn't announce or tease their games through emails from the store. When asked how such an email could be sent from the store, Hines explained "you can set up an email to come from anyone." Perhaps the more important question, asked by Hines himself, is why people feel the need to pull these hoaxes to begin with?

Long story short, there is no Fallout 4 or Skyrim announcement coming on Jan. 12th.
