Xbox One Twitch streaming still 'a few months' away

Back in November, Microsoft promised fans Twitch streaming would arrive on Xbox One sometime during the "first part of 2014." The Xbox One launched with a Twitch app that lets users watch live and cataloged broadcasts, but the ability to instantly broadcast gameplay was noticeably absent. And now that we're in the New Year, fans (understandably) want to know when they can expect this sort of feature to arrive. Unfortunately, it looks like it's still a few months out.

"Xbox One Direct Broadcasting: There is no ETA at this time from Microsoft," Twitch said on their official Twitter account. "Expect a few more months. If we know sooner, we'll update."

Responding to the Twitch update, Microsoft attempted to quell fan outcry by offering Polygon the following statement: "We understand that the broadcasting component of Twitch is very important, and it is a major focus on our roadmap as we work to ensure it is seamlessly implemented into our Xbox One experience over the coming months."

As it stands, the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One's competitor, allows its users to broadcast gameplay in real-time using either Twitch or Ustream services. On Tuesday, Twitch revealed that 20 percent of all Twitch streamers were broadcasting from PS4 systems between December 23 to January 1. So there's clearly a desire among gamers to share their gameplay experiences with others.
