Over half of GTA 5 players have tried GTA Online

Roughly 70 percent of Grand Theft Auto 5 players — the ones who have connected their consoles to the Internet, anyway — have at least tried the online mode, GTA Online.

GTA Online had a rough start when it launched in October last year, two weeks after GTA 5 did. But technical problems, such as server issues and bugs, haven't stopped players from experimenting with the online multiplayer.

"It is a free game, but the recurrent consumer spending it is generating represented nearly half of our digital revenue in the quarter," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told MCV.

GTA 5, which made $1 billion in sales in its first three days, was one of the most successful games of 2013 — and one of the most critically applauded despite some controversy (it is a Grand Theft Auto game, after all). Take-Two Interactive announced today that it shipped 32.5 million copies to retailers worldwide last year.
