Inside Titanfall’s beta: game modes, maps, and burn cards

With registration now open for Titanfall's beta on Xbox One and PC, Microsoft and Respawn Entertainment have released a video highlighting what players can expect should they be one of the lucky ones selected to participate. Although we already know the basic details of what the beta includes Respawn has shed a little more light on it.

First off, the beta is meant "to tease the game," says Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella. To that end, this isn't the complete game. Leveling is capped, not all of the items are included in the game, things of that nature. "But it's enough,"Zampella states. "It's the core of what the game is and that feel for what you can do in the game really there."

Titanfall's beta will offer three modes — Attrition, Hardpoint Domination and Last Titan Standing — spread across the maps Fracture and Angel City. Although Fracture has been shown previously at E3 this is the first time we will be able to play it. Angel City, meanwhile, has been the location for most of Titanfall's hands-on demos.

Also included in the demo are "Burn Cards," or powerups you can earn and collect in your inventory. Right before you enter the game, you can select three of these cards which allow you to have a temporary boost or ability of some kind, like double XP, a free titan, or an augmented weapon.

Titanfall's beta is slated to begin on Friday, February 14. The full game is due out on March 11 for Xbox One and PC. The Xbox 360 version was delayed until March 25.
