EA cuts jobs at PopCap — Garden Warfare team unaffected

Electronic Arts has let some employees go at subsidiary developer PopCap Games.

"We don't disclose numbers," EA told Polygon.

The Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare developer recently split into two teams: one focused on mobile games, and the other dedicated to mobile and PC releases. The Garden Warfare team specifically didn't suffer any losses in this round of layoffs, and EA said it has "no changes to announce with regard to PopCap titles."

"The changes we made today at PopCap were painful, and we're sorry to lose some of our friends and colleagues," John Vechey, PopCap's general manager, told Polygon.

"But it was also necessary in order to stay on course with our future plans for mobile games, live services, and new IP. PopCap is a studio that made its name building great games that the world can fall in love with, and that's what we'll continue to do."

PopCap launched the third-person shooter Garden Warfare on Xbox One and Xbox 360 last month. The title is also due for PC.
