Destiny adding opt-in for voice communication

One of the biggest complaints with Destiny — aside from the repetitive grind, that is — is the lack of in-game communication for players. Basically, if you're not in a pre-made fireteam, you can't talk. Kind of weird considering Destiny is heavy on the MMO aspects. Bungie has their reasons for such design, mainly stemming from their experiences with Halo.

"Our vision for Destiny is that all players, even matchmade players in the Crucible, Strikes, the Tower or public spaces, be able to communicate with one another in a way that promotes positive socialization. Voice communication is the easy answer, but existing voice paradigms, including those in our own Halo games, have not done enough to protect players from abusive griefing from a minority of players," Bungie explained in today's dev notes.

Thankfully, that's changing. Bungie confirmed today that they will be allowing players to opt-in to voice communication during matchmade activities, like Strikes and the Crucible.

"Destiny's near-term solution will be to allow players to opt-in to voice communication during matchmade activities," Bungie said. "Work on this feature was underway at launch and should be rolled out this year in Strikes and the Crucible."

Sucks we have to wait, but at least Bungie is listening. Of course, not all of today's announcements were as well-received. As part of today's hotfix, Bungie essentially killed the loot cave. Check out all of the patch notes from today here.
