In order for Call of Duty to release annually without suffering too many setbacks, Activision created a development cycle for the game franchise that incorporates three different developers switching off every year; Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch and Infinity Ward.
Last year's Call of Duty game was Black Ops 3 from Treyarch, which became one of the top-selling games of 2015. This year, we can look forward to possibly the Ghosts and Modern Warfare series picking up where they left off.
Activision's Financial Results of 2015 has revealed that Infinity Ward will be bringing us a fresh new take on Call of Duty in 2016.
"New innovative Call of Duty title from Infinity Ward, the makers of the Modern Warfare series, expected to launch this year."
What kind of innovation the Call of Duty series will see has yet to be revealed, but Infinity Ward did give us a hint last month. Whether it was a joke or tease of what to expect from this year's Call of Duty, Infinity Ward teased 'reaching new heights,' along with a picture of an astronaut.
We might be going to space in the next Call of Duty game!
