Assassin's Creed Origins will be releasing soon and it seems to be bringing quite a lot of new features to the game, making it feel new and fresh, and the lasted revealed mechanic will be a difficulty setting.
Difficulty settings might seem like a trivial thing, but it will be a series first for Assassin's Creed. With the franchise growing with tons of fans playing for different reasons, historical experience, gameplay, narrative, exploration, casually, and so on, Ubisoft thought a difficulty setting would be a smart thing to implement. This difficulty mechanic will allow players to switch on the fly in case a boss is too difficult or if the game is just too easy, catering to those who want to be challenged and those who want to just play and not die over and over again. Game director Ashraf Ismail explained how this will work in an interview with Assassin's Central.
“Some people play for the historic context, some people for the narrative, some for the gameplay, and what we felt was by going deeper into the gameplay challenge of the game we’re feeding one part of the audience, but not others so it was a natural step for us to think ‘well, let’s give difficulty settings.’If you really want that very difficult challenge you can set the game to a harder setting. We’ve seen situations where people have asked ‘y’know I want the game to stay at a normal, balanced difficulty but I’m having difficulty with this boss or this moment so can I switch?’ So yes we allow it to switch dynamically.”
Though easy mode won't turn enemies off completely, easy mode will just make them easier to beat. For those wanting a full-on passive mode, they will have to wait until early 2018 for Egypt Discovery mode to be released, a mode which will make enemies none hostile and allow for undisturbed exploration of Egypt.
Players will be able to fiddle with the difficulty settings themselves when Assassin's Creed Origins releases on October 27th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
