In what was to be an unprecedented showing, Bill Trinen of Nintendo was originally to appear at Evo 2015 this Friday as a participant in the Super Smash Bros. Wii U tournament. But with Iwata's passing still too fresh, Trinen shared on Twitter today that he has decided to pull his registration, choosing instead to be there in spirit.
His tweet read:
"Unfortunately I have had a change of plans after the news this week, but I will be watching and cheering from afar."
Earlier this week, Nintendo decided not to post anything on their social media channels, while the company's headquarters in Japan had its flag lowered out of respect for the late president. The wake of this sad news has been truly felt across the industry, but some have found solace in the fact that a rainbow was seen above Nintendo's headquarters. How very serendipitous that was.
