It’s been one week since the closure of UK-based development studio Bizarre Creations. Last Friday, the company behind titles such as Blur, Project Gotham Racing, Geometry Wars, and James Bond 007: Blood Stone closed its doors and officially ceased operation. As reported yesterday, design manager Gareth Wilson stated that “a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances” was the reason for the studio’s closure.
It appears that no setback is going to prevent the former Bizarre team continue to live their dream of making games because Pete Wallace, former director at Bizarre, announced that many of the staff members of the now-defunct studio have created their own development company. According to Wallace, Lucid Games plans on employing 50 ex-staff members. “The idea is to take the spirit of Bizarre Creations and see if we can improve on that,” Wallace told the Liverpool Daily Post. “We want to get back to the levels of innovation and creativity at Bizarre that made Activision so keen to acquire it.”
Details regarding Lucid Games are scarce at the moment, but it seems that the developer wants to help keep the Bizarre Creations memory alive. Best of luck to Lucid Games with any future projects.
