Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s new Specialist, Firebreak, is all about fire

Treyarch reveals Black Ops 3's ninth Specialist

During today's Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 livestream, Treyarch revealed the 9th Specialist, Firebreak.

"It's a very obvious name. Firebreak is all about fire," revealed Treyarch's Dan Bunting. As is the case with all of Black Ops 3's specialists, Firebreak has a special weapon and ability.

Firebreak's weapon is called the "Purifier," and it's a flamethrower perfect for room clearing. "We have a little bit of a history with the flamethrower at Treyarch. We did it at world at war as a weapon you can earn through progression at the very highest level. That was last gen. Of course, everytime we move to a new generation of technology we go back to the core components of fire and water. It looks amazing. It's so much fun to use," said Bunting.

"It's great for clearing out rooms," he continued. "That's sort of his speciality. Firebreak's big thing is he's uniquely designed to be a room clearing kind of specialist. And he's a master of the close range."

Firebreak's Special Ability is called "Heatwave," and was described by studio designer David Vonderhaar as stepping out from an air conditioned building into 100 degrees of stifling heat. "That sort of blast that comes through is what the Heatwave's ability is. It's very incapacitating," he said. "The players can't breathe, they are stunned."

Like the flamethrower, Heatwaave is also great for room clearing or objective capturing as it's an AOE attack that can disorient multiple players. While the ability doesn't do direct damage to players, it can damage equipment.

In addition to Firebreak, Treyarch also revealed today a new multiplayer map, Redwood. You can learn more about the forest-y map here.
