Imagine taking control of one of the clans from Game of Thrones, then systematically taking over the world (of Westeros). This could be thing, if Paradox Games gets their grimy little hands on the franchise. Paradox Games, known for their historical strategy computer games, are obviously a perfect fit for Game of Thrones.
Of course, Paradox games don't really show battles in-game; they more or less focus on the political nature of things — which is great for Game of Thrones — but we need the battle and blood.
Now, a mod that turns Crusader Kings 2 into a Game of Thrones expansion game exists, but we are greedy people. We need it to have its own game. During a ParadoxCon round table, Paradox CEO Fredik Wester admitted to considering nabbing the license to create the game.
Of course there are reasons for them not to create the game (like fear? I mean, come on…). "The reason we haven't approached HBO is that I'm still on the fence because I'm not sure it's the right route for us to take," said Wester during the round table.
It turns out that HBO didn't like the mod for Crusader Kings 2. More specifically, they were concerned that Paradox could be making money off of it and and HBO wasn't.
Wester did go on to talk about how great the mod is so, maybe we can hope for a game. Regardless of HBO's concern, Wester acknowledged: "The mod is great, though, it would make a great franchise for us, it's just that we just need to get over that inner feeling that it's not the right thing to do … it's a lot about creative control."
Sure, Paradox might want creative control over the project, but the story has already been written, the characters have been cast… It's just taking the characters (minding the likeness to the show) and letting people create their own story.
