E3 2016: SEGA doesn’t meet fan expectation with Sonic The Hedgehog announcement

What have we just witnessed?

SEGA promoted their E3 stream with the promise of news for EU fans of Sonic The Hedgehog, but it was hardly what they expected.

A lot of fans, after seeing the description of the SEGA livestream, focused on the fact that there would be Sonic The Hedgehog news. Little did they know that SEGA would, much to their dismay, very much be honing in on the 'EU' element of their statement.

After what could be described as a blockbuster E3 trade fair this year, with Microsoft announcing a new Xbox One S and Sony announcing that Crash Bandicoot is coming back to be remastered, many fans will have been hoping for a SEGA comeback.

But no, fans of the blue, spikey-haired character were – instead – told by SEGA that a future Sonic The Hedgehog event would be unmissable, where they will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game.

Did you enjoy SEGA’s E3 livestream?

SEGA will be offering an all-expenses paid trip for the event to the winner of their newly-announced competition. The lucky winner will get the chance to not only attend the event but meet all of the Sonic team, with a following 10 fans getting a runners-up prize – tickets to London's Summer of Sonic event.

If you would like to get involved, all you have to do is send in a video proving why you're the biggest "EU Sonic fan"… whatever that means. For more details about the competition, click here.

On a final note, SEGA has encouraged gamers to get involved with their #AskSEGA campaign on Twitter. Not many people seem very positive in reaction to their E3 livestream, judging by some of the replies, but you can have your say by responding to their tweet below:
