It's no secret that the PlayStation Vita hasn't been delivering the most impressive sales following its launch in Japan. The hardware itself hasn't turned out especially high numbers, so it should come as no surprise that the software isn't faring all that well, either. So far, the only game to crack any type of top sales list is Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational.
The game has been well-received by gamers and critics, and it seems to be a highly entertaining gameplay experience on the platform. Now, in addition to being the best-selling Vita game so far, World Invitational has broken a humble record: It is the first Vita title to sell over 100,000 copies.
Japanese gaming news website Dengeki Online revealed that World Invitational had managed to sell 107,000 individual sales. That's not a bad number by any means, but it's still not as impressive as some gamers may have expected. And considering past Hot Shots titles had actually hit the 1 million sales mark, it's obvious World Invitational has a long way to go to reach the commercial standards the series is known for.
The Vita continues to slowly chug along. It isn't doing very well from a commercial standpoint, but the handheld has been critically praised by reviewers. How will the Vita fare when it lands in North American next month? Looks like we'll find out come February 22.
