How to download Red Dead Redemption on your Xbox One right now

Find a friend who already follows the game page on Xbox LIVE

As discovered earlier today, Rockstar is bringing its open-world, action-adventure western, Red Dead Redemption, to Xbox One via backward compatibility. Although it hasn't officially been announced yet, Xbox One owners who already own the game digitally are able to download it and start playing (for now).

So how do you do it?

Similar to the situation with Left 4 Dead, you'll need to first find someone following the game to access the Red Dead Redemption page for Xbox One. NeoGAF says to follow "rockohoward," and Kotaku mentions "F4hey"

If you go through those profiles or a friend's game history and find Red Dead Redemption, you can open it in the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and either install it (if you've previously owned it) or buy it and then install it on Xbox One. Unfortunately, the backward compatibility does not work — yet — if you own the physical disc version of the game.

The download works for now, but like they did with Left 4 Dead, I imagine Microsoft will shut it down until it's officially released.
