BurgerTime HD Coming to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PC

The original 1983 arcade classic BurgerTime has been overlooked by remake developers for far too long. I’ve known too many people who speak of BurgerTime in loving remembrance for it to be so easily dismissed. Monkeypaw Games is looking to remedy this, with BurgerTime HD, a remake of the game presumably for XBLA, PSN, Wiiware, and PC download.

The game was quietly announced via an ESRB rating, which describes it as follows:

“This is an action-platformer in which players assume the role of a small chef who must assemble giant hamburgers. Players must avoid ‘cartoony’ hazards (e.g., grill flames, spikes traps) and oversized enemies (e.g., carrots, apple cores, hot peppers) in each level. The chef blinks and falls off-screen when hit; enemies react to damage with a ‘dizzying’ effect.”

Sounds like BurgerTime to me. Monkeypaw is best known for bringing older games like Alundra and Arc the Lad to the Playstation Network, not so much for retro remakes. Hopefully they can do justice to this deliciously classic game.

Video games became an amazing, artful, interactive story-driven medium for me right around when I played Panzer Dragoon Saga on Sega Saturn. Ever since then, I've wanted to be a part of this industry. Somewhere along the line I, possibly foolishly, decided I'd rather write about them than actually make them. So here I am.
