When Paradox Interactive announces a new game you can bet on that it will be a new strategy game, and that is exactly what newly announced Steel Division: Normandy 44 is!
This time, Paradox Interactive is teaming up with Eugen System, the mastermind behind games like R.U.S.E. and the Wargame franchise, to make Steel Division: Normandy 44. As the title suggests, Steel Division will be set during World War II and will feature over 400 historically accurate units.
Unlike the strategy games developed by Paradox first hand, like Stellaris and Hearts of Iron, Steel Division: Normandy 44 will be a "tactical real-time strategy" game. The "tactical" part of it means that players will switch from a larger tactical "aerial view" individual soldiers in the blink of an eye. The tactical maps themselves are based on aerial recognizance photos, forcing players to first plan out their moves on the drawing board to then get in close and personal to find the best cover positions and ways to out maneuver the enemy.
Six nations will be represented and playable in Steel Division and the ones currently revealed are the American 101st Airborne, the German armored 21st Panzer, and the 3rd Canadian Division.
Steel Division: Normandy 44 has no fixed released date yet but is set for release sometime in 2017.
