PS4 outsells Xbox One in U.S. in February 2016

What about digital purchases?

Over the last year, Sony's PlayStation 4 has outsold the Xbox One in the United States through physical retailers a majority of the time. To put this into perspective, over the last 14 months the Xbox One has only outsold the PS4 twice.

Sony has released a statement on the success of their console for February 2016:

“We would like to thank our fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top-selling hardware platform and the software sales leader in February, according to NPD. We continued to see strong year-over-year sales growth for PS4 hardware and software and are truly humbled by the support and enthusiasm from gamers. We will continue to deliver amazing gaming experiences with the upcoming launches of Ratchet & Clank, MLB The Show 16 and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.”

Last year in February, there was an upset in the gaming platform market, thanks to the release of the New Nintendo 3DS XLThe Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. The Nintendo 3DS was the top-selling hardware platform in the United States for February 2015 – so take that Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo was there once.
