Microsoft has announced that Rise of The Tomb Raider has a free trial on Xbox One available now. All your progress will carry over to the full game should you decide to purchase it.
The trial comes at a point of low sales for Rise of The Tomb Raider despite high review scores from most outlets. Launching along side Fallout 4 (which isn't as good a game imo) and a week ahead of Star Wars: Battlefront didn't help the game's sales numbers either. In fact, Rise of The Tomb Raider didn't even place in the NPD top ten in sales for November as it was beaten out by games like Need for Speed and Just Dance 2016.
Although Microsoft has stated that the game has sold well, this free trial a month after launch is evident that they are not happy internally with the numbers. The trial comes in at about 20GB which is basically the whole game. You will be able to take part in a couple main story missions and explore the area around you during the trial. Once you purchase the full game your progress will be unlocked for you to continue.
I definitely recommend picking up Rise of The Tomb Raider if you haven't already as it really shows a completion of who Lara is as a person. The struggles both physically and emotionally are extremely evident with the cinematic animations and voice work in the game as well. If you're still unsure, check out our review of Rise of the Tomb Raider first. In fact, read it anyway, you'll like it.
