Rumor: Sony cuts PlayStation Vita shipment to France by 50%

In another rumor to add to the media's doom and gloom perception of the PlayStation Vita, PlayPortable-Live announced in an unconfirmed report that Sony cut the PS Vita's shipment by 50% in France.

According to the site, Sony will now ship 40,000 PlayStation Vita units to France instead of hte originally speculated 80,000 units.  Of those 40,000 units, around 30,000 will be the Wi-Fi models, with the 3G support model making up the remaining 10,000.

If this rumor is indeed true, and I'm not so quick to believe it, it will only strengthen the general opinion that the Vita has been a flop.  At CES this week, Sony revealed the official sales numbers for the PS Vita since its launch in Japan on December 17th.  As of January 5th, Sony has sold 500,000 PlayStation Vita units.  It's not a bad number, but the media has been quick to pounce on the lower-than-anticipated sales.

The Vita is set to launch worldwide on February 22, 2012.
