After announcing a brand new Sonic game on Friday there was a certain level of fanfare and anticipation that followed, and now it would seem SEGA are going to use the hedgehog's popularity to make him a star in entertainment.
During an interview with MCV, Chief Brand Officer Ivo Gerscovich discussed the plans that SEGA have for Sonic the Hedgehog moving forward.
“We are really focussed on turning Sonic into an entertainment icon, not just a games icon,” explained Gerscovich.
“We want to go across all platforms and elevate his status even further, which explains why we are doing so much. SEGA is really – as of this last year – putting a huge emphasis on quality.”
SEGA might well have announced that a new Sonic game is under development, but no specific details have been announced as of yet.- making it a rather mysterious prospect up to now.
Many gamers have already predicted that it will be another Sonic BOOM game, others are hoping for much bigger than that. Well, if you're a bit skeptical in terms of the quality of the next title, the Vice President of Product Development and Creative Services Takashi Iizuka has offered some reassurance in that respect.
“We want to release good titles to all the players, and that is the challenge for us moving forward – making sure our games are great.”
