After a long wait, PC modders can finally get their hands on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Creation Kit, a development kit specifically designed for modding Skyrim.
With the kit, Skyrim PC players can now upload, download, and install custom content through the Skyrim Workshop on Steam.
Skyrim level designer Joel Burgess has released an introduction video to the Creation Kit, as well as a blog post giving you a crash course on how to use the new mod kit, including finding and installing mods, creating and uploading your mod, and a disclaimer of course. The video is the first of a 10 part series introducing you to the Skyrim Creation Kit.
In addition, Bethesda has also provided a "best practices" and troubleshooting FAQ for those who may be encountering problems with the newly released kit. This details some helpful tips you may want to use when modding your game.
If you have any other questions, you can get a ton of help from the official Creation Kit Wiki.
Last week, Production Director Ashley Cheng talked a little about the Skyrim Creation Kit, writing:
As we were building Skyrim and its tools, we made it a goal to try and keep the transition from our previous titles to Skyrim as smooth as possible for modders. More importantly, we want to make it easier for more people to enjoy mods. So we teamed up with Valve and created the Skyrim Workshop. We couldn’t be more pleased with how it’s turning out. Mods are a big part of what makes our games special, so we urge everyone to try it out. We’re going to keep looking for ways to get mods to more people, and hopefully one day to our console audience.
Bethesda also made it clear that they will continue to work on the Creation Kit as well as the Steam Workshop and encourage users to provide feedback.
