Since its announcement last year, Iridium Studios' voice-controlled real-time strategy game, There Came an Echo, has been on my watch list. And now, I know what date I'm looking forward to.
Announced today, There Came an Echo is set to release on February 24, 2015. The game is due out on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, although this specific release date only applies to the PC version on Steam.
For those unfamiliar, There Came an Echo, starring Wil Wheaton, sees a group of characters braving extreme danger "to uncover the mysteries around a seemingly unbreakable cryptographic lock and prevent a devastating secret from changing the very fabric of society."
What really makes this game unique, though, is how it plays. Although perfectly playable with a traditional controller, the game emphasizes controlling your characters with voice command. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about the whole voice-control "gimmick" — or at least what I thought was a gimmick. After going hands-on voice-on with the game at PAX East, I came away very impressed.
