The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 1.4 update is now live worldwide for every platform – including the PlayStation 3.
The much-awaited patch for Skyrim includes many performance-enhancing updates for the PS3, including a fix for the lag issues plaguing the PS3 version of the game. The patch includes so many fixes that Bethesda has informed PS3 Skyrim players that additional "strange" game behavior as a result of the patch should actually be expected for a brief period.
"If you’re encountering any strange in-game behavior immediately after applying the patch, don’t be alarmed — this is a normal function of the script backlog temporarily correcting itself," they said in a blog post yesterday.
In a forum update, Community Manager Nick Breckon gave a few tips for PS3 Skyrim players.
"To ensure the fastest jump in performance after applying the patch, be sure to first create a new manual save by entering the save menu and choosing “save game.” You should then restart your PlayStation 3 before continuing to play," he explained.
He also added, " If you encounter strange behavior while playing immediately following application of the patch, do not be alarmed – this is a temporary effect of Skyrim scripts correcting themselves after the update. Once this process runs its course, be sure to make a new save and restart your PlayStation 3."
Although the 1.4 patch has just been released, the overall feedback from players has been that the PS3 lag has been much improved. We'll continue to update you as we learn more.
