Assassin's Creed: Origins is easily the most intriguing entry the series has seen since Black Flag, and a major reason for that is the fact that the game has shaken up many of the series' core features. I'm talking primarily about the combat, which has previously been discussed at some length. As we know by now, Ubisoft has moved away from its more cinematic pairing system to a more practical hit box system.
IGN is currently running Assassin's Creed: Origins as the focal point of their latest series of IGN First. A new video popped up today, talking at length about the combat and revealing gladiator arenas as a side quest.
Check it out:
Assassin's Creed: Origins will be bringing gladiator arenas to the game to reflect the ones that were brought over by the Greeks. The arenas will primarily serve as combat challenges that will throw a variety of different variables at you. As game director Ash Ismail explains, challenges can range from using only a particular type of melee weapon, each of which has a different fighting style, or you might find yourself only able to fight long range with a bow.
Boss battles will also play a prominent role in the game, serving as what Ismail calls "the ultimate challenge of [the game's] combat system." You will, of course, find bosses throughout the Origins' campaign mode, but they are also littered throughout the game world. Some of them are located in side quests, while others are simply there to be found by the player organically.
Assassin's Creed: Origins releases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 27th, 2017.
